Can you dream about anything?
Can you really be sure you’re not dreaming?
Can you dream - Are you dreaming?
Have you pinched yourself to see that you weren’t dreaming?

Halloween Day 2: Byzantium

I know...I know everybody is sick of vampires but you haven't seen any movie like this! I saw Byzantium randomly this weekend and I was blown away. Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan were terrific. This is the story of a mother and daughter vampire duo, who have been on the run from  the secret society of vampires:"The Brotherhood". The mother named Clara with a profession older than her age of 200 years (can you guess it?)  and her daughter Eleanor who wants to tell their secret but she never can. This movie is filled with love, horror, action and its own yet different mythology.

"My mother did three things for me
1.She spared my life the day I was born
2.She paid for my upkeep on her knees and on her back
3.She gave me the story I can never tell"

Rag & Bone + Lea Seydoux + Michael Pitt

Michael Pitt and Lea Seydoux

Oh god I'm late! How could I miss such greatness? Remember I did a post on how incredible Lea Seydoux is? Well now Lea and the legendary bad-ass Michael Pitt has been featured in Rag & Bone's new fashion short films.

Both looking incredible with their devil may care attitudes in exquisite clothes. Eeeek!

Creepy Shit You Find Online At Night: Mark Twain's "Mysterious Stranger"

At 3am, I was browsing through my "Watch Later" playlist for Youtube and I saw " very creepy, disturbing children's cartoon, banned from TV " so I thought at night time that would be a good idea (yes, if you like nightmares).

This is apparently from the 1985 Adventures of Mark Twain ... Don't watch it right before bed.

She's A Vampire

My friend lives with a Vampire
I should set his house on fire
I could have done it earlier
I didn’t realise she was a monster
She’s a Vampire
She’s a monster, the monster

I'm brainstorming for my new collection and this is one of the movies that really inspire me.

Before the unfortunate plastic surgery (though maybe not her fault), when she was a dark breath of fresh air, dating Marilyn Manson and playing the role of IDGAF in every movie (Doom Generation, Jawbreaker, Scream)...

There Is Beauty In Simplicity.

As I brainstorm to add more items to "The Minimalist" jewelry collection, I get inspired by imagery like art and photographs, music and films.

Tons of the imagery can be found on from fashion bloggers like Ivania Carpio from Love Aesthetics or Tumblr blogs like Concept Noir  Even with minimalism I get the feeling for futuristic dystopian society blogs like N E U R O M Æ N C E R, where only the sleek line of negative amongst building exists, in spite of a world flooded with sadness.
by Alisdair Miller

Then there is the imagery of architecture which I touched on before when I was speaking of the Cage Ring, inspired by the Washington DC subway train stations. (I'll do another post on minimalistic architecture)

The films ---I feel that films can take you anywhere.. Films are great escapism for those who are far too aware of reality. I think the best most recent forms of minimalism is the American version of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo directed by David Fincher. You may not notice at first but everyone in the film in wearing black and everything from the snow to the buildings are either grey or white.

Is there such a thing as minimalistic music? I suppose. As a person with Synesthesia  (I see colors when I hear music), I can't help but see white, black and negative space with certain music...Along with music from groups like How To Destroy Angels (Trent Reznor) and XEO3 (Persia White) that I see geometric shapes such as squares, hexagons and triangles. I hope to incorporate those shapes, those visions of sounds, and those films as I continue to create and curate our signature collection at BLK and Noir Jewelry.

Kiss of the Damned Review

Remember when I talked about this movie coming out? Well its finally on VOD and like a giggly school girl I ordered it immediately! And I'm back with the results!

I loveddddd it! It was visually stimulating, funky soundtrack, vibrant colors and I love the direction it took. It was quite a nostalgic arthouse film. It makes me want to rethink my jewelry selections for the store a bit, maybe I will take more of an interest in the vintage style of jewelry. It also makes me want to explore different fashion styles, because whoever the wardrobe stylist was on this filmed picked amazing pieces, even the simplest outfits stood out to me. Kiss of the Damned was Parisian class meets Retro Goth converses with classic European 70s Horror and has dinner with the New Age ---a mix of the old and new. I never heard of Xan Cassavettes before this but I am pretty much hooked on what ever she does next. This film often reminded me of Dario Argento (Suspiria) and Jean Rollin films with the mixture of blood, gore, erotica (sounds like fun right?) and even the sound effects.

Kiss of the Damned is about a French classy vamp named Djuna who meets an American screenwriter named Paolo. They fall instantly and it doesn't take the long before they are going to be together, forever. Everything is going blissfully until her sister Mimi shows up... Mimi represents the dark allure that the "good monsters" in this film wish to avoid to insure the longevity in their species. A important question in the film ponders that the vampires must answer about their existence:

"Does the existence of Dr.Jerkyll make Mr.Hyde any less of a monster?"

Kiss of the Damned

Films are one of the medias that inspire some of the jewelry at BLK and Noir. Films are great because in the moment when your watching it, everything arounds you shuts off and everything in you turns on. This new film that we can not WAIT for, is called  Kiss of the Damned. Some maybe tired of the vampire craze but we feel this mythological creature will never go out of style. Kiss of the Damned is directed by Xan Cassavetes and stars Joséphine de La Baume, Riley Keough, Roxane Mesquida, Milo Ventimiglia,

Here is the trailer.
