Don't you hate when you are trying to walk somewhere or just enjoy the day and you are faced with street harassment? I have had it happened several times. But don't you wish you had the courage to say FUCK OFF or GO AWAY!? Yea, us too but we are usually afraid to because the violence against women is so prevalent, just saying NO , let alone those words can get you killed. 

What a sad world we live in.

Bloggers Who Accept Gifted Items But Who Don’t Do Reviews

I really wish I didn’t have to write this but unfortunately I have. Sometimes we send bloggers jewelry to review and see how they would style it. Not only does it provide exposure but it you can make great connections, let other people try your new items and see if you can improve on something. I have befriended a lot of bloggers who I now talk to every week. It can be really great experience and then sometimes it just isn’t. I sent my items to a blogger who goes by the name of "The Style Playlist" or on Tumblr as "dirtylittlestylewhoree" otherwise known as Courtney Clark. I contacted her because I wanted for her to try out some of my things, I had been following way before I started my store (circa 2009/2010) so I was so excited when she responded back. I took my time and money to make her a package with our most popular pieces and mailed to her in June. She responded that she got it and loved it  and was writing a blog post this weekend! So I was so thrilled for the post to see her styling it with her clothes, and then nothing happened.. Then a month goes by, then two, then three. I contact her repeatedly through email, through tumblr, anything! trying to find out what happened , maybe she was ill , maybe something happened to her, is she okay? But then I noticed she posts pictures and replies but won’t reply to me. I see other reviews/post for other companies. So I’m left wondering what happened.

I don’t know and probably never will... I give up on trying to contact her. I would have even been satisfied with a response to learn what happened , if something went wrong with the products I sent. Or a no "I'm sorry I'll get to it, hey I have a lot going on." So I suggest if you want to send your items to for her to promo, don’t. And be careful who you send your items to, some people just want free things. I do want to thank the bloggers who request things or accept things and actually follow through with our agreements! But next time I will be more cautious before I contact a blogger just because they are popular.

Humans? Yes Humanity? N...Maybe

This post isn't about jewelry, or music or fashion. This is a philosophical post about random talks about fate and destiny I've had around the studio and the end of the world (pretty heavy stuff huh?)...Its what we talk about when we're not talking about jewelry...

When people talk about the world ending and how bad things are getting, I wonder if they ever look back at history and see that things were never going good. We may have more natural disasters with the advent of global warming but before that there was World War 1 and 2, genocide and bloodshed. When people talk about humanity failing, was humanity ever good? Just because we have a short time of peace and civilization (60-70 years) doesn't mean that 150 years ago slavery didn't happen. 70 years ago Holocaust didn't happen, or just 40 years ago the Vietnam War didn't happen...Disaster, death, trouble, has always been all around us before we were born and after we die. Humanity has always been this way, and just because it wasn't in your front yard and now suddenly is, doesn't mean it had ever stopped. And doesn't mean its just now getting worst and it doesn't mean that now after all these years of self destruction that the world is ending.

There Is Beauty In Simplicity.

As I brainstorm to add more items to "The Minimalist" jewelry collection, I get inspired by imagery like art and photographs, music and films.

Tons of the imagery can be found on from fashion bloggers like Ivania Carpio from Love Aesthetics or Tumblr blogs like Concept Noir  Even with minimalism I get the feeling for futuristic dystopian society blogs like N E U R O M Æ N C E R, where only the sleek line of negative amongst building exists, in spite of a world flooded with sadness.

Then there is the imagery of architecture which I touched on before when I was speaking of the Cage Ring, inspired by the Washington DC subway train stations. (I'll do another post on minimalistic architecture)

The films ---I feel that films can take you anywhere.. Films are great escapism for those who are far too aware of reality. I think the best most recent forms of minimalism is the American version of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo directed by David Fincher. You may not notice at first but everyone in the film in wearing black and everything from the snow to the buildings are either grey or white.

 Is there such a thing as minimalistic music? I suppose. As a person with Synesthesia  (I see colors when I hear music), I can't help but see white, black and negative space with certain music...Along with music from groups like How To Destroy Angels (Trent Reznor) and XEO3 (Persia White) that I see geometric shapes such as squares, hexagons and triangles. I hope to incorporate those shapes, those visions of sounds, and those films as I continue to create and curate our signature collection at BLK and Noir Jewelry.

No one saw that coming.I mean, who would think that someone would set off a a bomb at a running marathon? Thats one thing I could have never anticipated and I'm sure they didn't either. Its a sad day in America --seems like the sad days are drawing close and closer to each other. I hope everyone has a speed recovery!
